TRAVELING TO MANADO
Manado’s Sam Ratulangi Airport (IATA: MDC) is an airy, modern facility expanded in 2001. The airport provides international flights from Singapore (Silk Air, 3x weekly, 3h) with visa on arrival possible.
There are also frequent flights from Jakarta (Garuda, Batik Air, Citylink, Lion Air, 3.5h) and Makassar (Batik Air, Garuda, Lion Air, Sriwijaya, 1.5h). Other flights are available from Surabaya (East Java, Citylink, Lion Air), and Denpasar (Bali, Garuda, Lion Air).
A taxi from the airport to central Manado takes about 30 minutes and costs Rp 80,000 – 120,000 (bargaining may be necessary). If possible, pick a Blue Bird (Group) taxi. They are metered taxies (no need to bargain) and reliable. On the way back from your hotel to the airport, order a Blue Bird taxi.
If you want to make a call in the airport, please have your cell phone ready, don’t count on the public phone.
If you happen to see a conference committee staff, she/he might assist you in finding a taxi to your hotel.
